Drawing I is an overview of many drawing techniques and media. Students study line, shape, space, value, texture, and explore composition, still life, perspective, figure drawing, mixed media and many other aspects of drawing and line-making. Other topics that this class specifically emphasizes include artistic critique, aesthetics, concept development, research, the history of art (more specifically the history of drawing in an art historical context), and craftsmanship. For this class, students are required to keep a sketchbook. Sketchbook work is in conjunction with the more in depth, in-class assignments and larger drawings.
